Executive DirectorThe Euro-Mediterranean Foundation of Support to Human Rights Defenders (EMHRF) invites candidates to apply for a position as Executive Director.
Background:
The Euro-Mediterranean Foundation of Support to Human Rights Defenders (EMHRF) is a Danish-registered foundation established in December 2004. The EMHRF constitutes a specific contribution to the human rights dimension of the Barcelona Declaration and the Guidelines of the European Union on Human Rights Defenders, and supports the United Nation Declaration on Human Rights Defenders of December 9, 1998.
The Foundation aims at supporting human rights defenders in difficulty or at risk by means of small scale and flexible funds, for the specific purpose of allowing them to pursue their activities as well as small organizations and groups aiming at strengthening their capacities in implementing innovative activities in the region (www.emhrf.org). A key aim for the intervention of the Foundation is to ensure sustainability and a long-term perspective for its beneficiaries. Therefore, when possible, a short-term intervention is coupled with a long-term view. The EMHRF also engages actively in facilitating contacts for applicants to present the project or situation to other potential donors or institutions that might be able to provide institutional or financial support in the longer term.
The EMHRF consists of a Board of 9 members, a Council of Representatives of 84 organizations located in 20 countries in the region and a Copenhagen-based Secretariat.
Role:
The Executive Director will be responsible for the task of managing EMHRF activities under the guidance and supervision of the Board.

Main qualifications required:
o Fundraising – knowledge of the main donors policies and obligations
o Project and financial management
o The history, the situation and functioning of human rights NGOs and activists in the Mediterranean and the Middle East
o International human rights law. Knowledge of refugee law and international humanitarian law would also be desirable.
Duty station: Copenhagen - compulsory
Working hours: The Executive Director will be employed to work 37 hours per week.
Salary: The salary will be equivalent to the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. In addition, the EMHRF will pay reasonable relocation expenses and will assist in obtaining necessary Danish work authorization if needed.
Start of assignment: as soon as possible
Duration: Permanent after successful completion of initial probation period
